Shonda Rhimes has joined Planned Parenthood’s national board

Today is...

National Empowered Women Entrepreneurs Day!

News of the Day:

+ In a recent interview with Elle, Shonda Rhimes reveals that she's joined Planned Parenthood's national board. “When someone you really admire calls on you to serve, you say yes,” Rhimes said in the interview of joining forces with Cecile Richards, the president of America's Planned Parenthood Foundation. Rhimes is the perfect addition to the board, seeing as she's brought abortion and women’s health issues to the forefront on multiple occasions on Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder, and Grey’s Anatomy

+ The 2017 Afropunk Brooklyn festival lineup is here, and it's just as good as we hoped. It includes Soul II Soul, SZA, Sampha, Kaytranada, Thundercat, and more. The festival, where 25,000 fans will have the opportunity to volunteer at to earn a GA weekend pass, will also be bringing back Afropunk Army. The festival will be held at Commodore Barry Park on August 26 and 27. Snag your tickets now on the Afropunk website.

+ Festival season is upon us, which means it's time to get those packing lists in check. Luckily Festigal, a new subscription box for girls who love music festivals, makes it easy. Each month, subscribers will receive a box filled with five to seven festival must-haves, from metallic tattoos and holographic fanny packs to items that make camping just a bit more comfortable. You can subscribe to get your first box, here.

+ Rebecca Minkoff and Rosie Jane Johnson are teaming up in support of women everywhere. The duo is creating an All Girls Essentials beauty pouch, which will have Minkoff’s practical, downtown-girl-on-a-mission aesthetic and hold a By Rosie Jane Cosmetics Lip And Cheek Pot and signature Roll-On. The interior of the dual-colored, half-moon-shaped clutch reads '"feminist"—because, duh—and, best of all, 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to I Am That Girl. The limited-edition clutch is available at ByRosieJane.com and the Rebecca Minkoff flagship store in LA. Happy philan(retail)thropy!

+ Zara stores might be in for the biggest makeover ever. Not too long after discovering that the Spanish retail giant has hidden online sections that aren't available everywhere, we find out that they are opening up a new HUGE flagship store in Madrid. The 65,000-square foot location is reported to include self-checkout stations and super-cool fitting room gadgets that make it easier to request different sizes. There's no word on when these additions will make it over to the U.S., but let's hope it's soon.

Deal of the Day:

Venus Williams has just launched the latest collection for her athletic wear brand EleVen. Datura includes all of your athletic/workout faves in fun colors and patterns, like florals and pastel pinks, and new silhouettes. With most price points being below $100, it's looking like an all-around win. Take a look for yourself at the online store.
