Will Smith Talks About The #OscarsSoWhite Problem

“there’s a regression in America in general.”

Due to the major of lack of diversity among this year's Oscar nominations, the focus for the ceremony has shifted from the films themselves to the stances taken by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith, who are boycotting the ceremony on account of #OscarsSoWhite. Even POTUS has chimed in with his take on things.

One of the most eloquent responses so far has come from Pinkett Smith's hubby, Will Smith. Unsurprisingly, Smith has sided with his wife and will also refuse to attend the Oscars. He elaborated on his reasons for doing so on last night's The Graham Norton Show:

"The media creates the 'us' and 'them' and for me there is no 'us' and 'them', it's 'we'," Smith told Norton. "For me, it's more about putting my hand up and reminding my community, the Hollywood community, that we have to lead. Diversity is America's superpower."

Amen, Will Smith, amen. This is one call to action we're getting on board with stat. Let's just hope that, as Norton says, something good comes out of it. Check out the full clip from the show below.
