The reasons for our Alexa Chung girl crush are wide-ranging--yes, everything from her taste in music to her perfect-messy hair is just spot-on--but if we were to be totally honest, it probably starts and ends with her enviable sense of style. The It Girl (and our October cover star) somehow manages to pull off a look that's both all over the place and yet totally refined. Can you think of anyone else who looks preppy, super-retro, and borrowed-from-the-boys all at the same time? (And who also doesn't look crazy while doing it.)

Chung is so good at pulling it off that she's practically got it down to a science. And, because we spend way more time than we'd like to admit scoping out pics of her latest outfits, we've figured it out too.

Meet the Alexa Chung Essentials: All you need is a button-down shirt, a not-too-fitted blazer, a '60s-esque sheath, a pair of flat loafers, and a cross-body bag. Mix and match, pair with your own personal faves--Chung tends to go with not-too-short shorts or trousers--and you've got a wardrobe rotation worthy of an It Girl.
