Amy Adams Covered Rihanna’s “Work” In An Unexpected Way

introducing: box of microphones

Jimmy Fallon’s newest Tonight Show game “Box of Microphones” has stars singing some top hits of the day. But don’t get it twisted—this is neither Lip Sync Battle nor regular karaoke. Thanks to a box of special effect microphones, the game has resulted in what may be the most unusual cover of Rihanna’s “Work” in history.

As Amy Adams came on the show to talk about her role as Lois Lane in Batman v. Superman, she became the first person to play Fallon’s new game. Grabbing a red microphone and a notecard dictating her song choice, she sang a version of “Work” that can only be described as the absolute antithesis of her vocal performance in Disney’s Enchanted. Pair a grumbly, low voice effect with Adams’s cheerful disposition, though, and you’ve got yourself a multidimensional experience.

Fallon followed up her performance with a chipmunk version of Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” that somehow seemed to be a perfect fit, and the two finished their musical interlude with a take on “You’re The One That I Want” for Grease that may very well be any theater kid’s nightmare. Pair two actors with some voice effect microphones and you’re set with one hell of a performance.

The take-away? More Box of Microphones, please.
