Today might seem like any old Monday, but true pop culture whizzes will know that September 30th marks the day that the music industry changed forever. Yes, it was on this day in 1998 that "... Baby One More Time" was released. It's the song that made Britney Spears a household name, and the video that birthed a generation of crop top wearing schoolgirls.

Back in '98, I was actually enrolled in Catholic school, which made Spears' thigh-high stockings, knot-front top, and grey cardigan all the more relatable. Her pigtail braids were the unsexy cool hairdo I copied for a year after the video debuted, and her frosty pink lipstick seemed like the best beauty decision a girl could make at the time. Looking back on my appropriation of BritBrit's style, OK, it wasn't the best look for me, but it sure was fun to get dolled up after school and actually feel cool in my uniform.

I think Spears' look has more staying power now, though, because nothing is trendier in 2013 than '90s nostalgia, a pleated skirt, or some slip-on sneakers. (See the Paris runways for proof!) A lot of the pieces you can buy to cop Spears' style now are actually really cute items you've probably been eyeing anyway, like an American Apparel blouse or an Asos miniskirt. So whether you're planning on being schoolgirl chic every day or planning out your best Halloween costume ever, you're going to need to check out our roundup of all things Spears-inspired and NYLON-approved. Hit the stores, one more time.
