Caitlyn Jenner Talks To H&M About Her Transition, And How It’s Her Greatest Victory Of All

“I looked in the mirror and thought, ‘This is the first time I’ve ever seen myself.’”

With the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio just around the corner, H&M sat down to chat with the face of their H&M Sport line, former Olympic gold medalist, and transgender icon Caitlyn Jenner. With a recent Sports Illustrated cover and campaigns for M.A.C. in addition to H&M now under her belt, the brand tapped their muse to talk about some of her life’s greatest victories.

In the moving video, Jenner goes through a timeline of her life, from 1960 to 2015, to share her stories of trials and triumphs. From fighting self-esteem and gender issues early on and winning a fifth-grade gym class race to taking home the Olympic gold (which she now keeps in a drawer with her nail polishes) and becoming a parent, she gives us some insight on a lifetime of milestones, big and small.

The moving video goes into the story of her transition, from her emotional struggle in the ‘80s to the decision to go forward, thus bringing her family together. She spoke of the day that Annie Leibovitz shot her for the cover of Vanity Fair. “I looked in the mirror and I thought to myself, ‘This is the first time I’ve ever seen myself.’ This person who has lived inside me all my life—there she was for the first time.”

She ends the interview talking about her greatest victory of all: “To wake up in the morning, and just be yourself.”
