why we heart that half-bun, half-ponytail.

There's the polished bun and the polished ponytail. Both are super easy to do--and 99-percent of the time make you look like the HBIC. But if they each seem a little boring to you, allow us to introduce you to their hybrid: half-bun, half-ponytail, total awesomeness.

The combo was on display last week at the Critics' Choice Awards, with model Camila Alves rocking a look that was both sleek and cool. The secret: Her hair stylist Peter Butler tells us how it's done:

SMOOTH IT: John Frieda Frizz Ease Curl Reviver Mousse - $6.59, John Frieda Frizz Ease Nourishing Oil Elixir - $9.99

First, apply John Frieda Frizz Ease Curl Reviver Mousse to wet hair before blow drying it straight. To give it an extra bit of sleekness, apply a couple drops of the new John Frieda Frizz Ease Nourishing Oil Elixir.

CENTER IT:

Part hair down the center--to keep it extra clean, use a flat iron at the hairline.

PONY IT: John Frieda Frizz Ease Expert Finish Polishing Serum - $7.59

To bring it into a polished low ponytail, apply a few drops of John Frieda Frizz Ease Expert Finish Polishing Serum and comb through it, securing at the bottom of the hairline with an elastic. If you're getting small bumps as you bring it back into a ponytail, spray a brush with hairspray and then glide it from root to ends.)

TWIST IT: John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray - $5.99

Take hair and twist it into an off-center knot around the base of the ponytail, with the ends sticking out, and secure it with three large pins. Take your hairspray once more--Butler used John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray--and use it around the bun to help lock in the style.
