Charli XCX Wants You To Play Her New Single After The After-party

Guess what it’s called?

R. Kelly once famously declared in a song that “after the show, it's the after-party. And after the party, it's the hotel lobby.” Well, hotel lobbies aren’t fun, and that song is actually kind of a buzz kill. But don’t worry, because Charli XCX has taken it upon herself to write the next great after-party anthem. In fact, on her new single, “After the Afterparty,” she takes it one step further, singing on the song’s booming chorus: “'Cause after the after-party, we're gonna stay 'til mornin'/ Then when the time is up, we'll do it all again.”

The song is the first single of XCX’s forthcoming, still-untitled album. SOPHIE, who produced the singer’s Vroom Vroom EP, takes over production duties here as well, but this time, the collaborators seem intent on writing a straight-up anthem as opposed to the more jagged production from the EP. They get some help from Lil Yachty, who pitches in a bubblegum verse that fits in seamlessly with the song’s sing-along vibe. In an interview with Beats 1 host Zane Lowe, XCX talked about how the collaboration with the rapper came to be. It turns out he hit her up after hearing her last LP, Sucker, and loving it, a sentiment she no longer shares. “I was like, ‘Whoa, that’s cool ’cus I, like, hate that album now, so it’s cool that he likes it.”

For the record Charli, we also still like it. Cool if we hop on a track?
