Converse Just Launched Its Second Social Lookbook

Yara Shahidi and Salem Mitchell take on L.A.

Last week, Converse launched the Forever Chuck Social Lookbook Series, a new campaign paying homage to the Chuck Taylor. Celebrating the impact that the shoe has had on youth culture over the course of its iconic history, the brand is launching a new lookbook each week, with each one taking place in a specific city and era. While the first installment brought us back a few decades to The Beginning in New York City, this week, we’re off to the west coast for The Throwback.

The Throwback: Chuck ’70 is all about the classic Chuck Taylor All Star sneaker, a style that was born from the reimagining of the original Chuck Taylor sneaker of the 1970s. Taking place in Los Angeles, the brand tapped 16-year-old actress Yara Shahidi and 18-year-old model, student, and anti-bullying activist Salem Mitchell to front the campaign. Captured gallivanting about the L.A. cityscape, the two rock cream and black high tops and low tops while decked out in vintage-inspired clothing, from classic cropped corduroys to flared, wide-leg denim.

Being longtime fans of the brand, the duo only seemed right for this campaign. “I grew up surrounded by Converse,” says Shahidi. “Chuck Taylors have always been my go-to sneaker for a classic, yet cool, look. The opportunity to celebrate the evolution of a sneaker that my grandfather wore to play college basketball, that I [now] wear on the regular, was something I wanted to be a part of.”
