Empress Of Strips Down The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face”

the most intimate cover yet

by Sydney Gore

Earlier this week, Empress Of showed us the beauty of nature in the enchanting music video for "Icon." Now, the singer-songwriter has released a cover of The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face," and we're left in awe once more. Recorded at Sirius XMU for a live studio session, Empress Of's version ditches the synthesizers and is lead by a piano, which makes the song seem less about cocaine—or any aphrodisiac—and more about being addicted to love. This cover has a jazzier feel to it, but that only bumps up the sex appeal. The Weeknd may be the go-to guy for sex songs, but Empress Of gets intimacy better than anyone else. (In other words, she's giving him a run for his money.) Listen for yourself, below.
