FIRST LOOK: JONATHAN SIMKHAI

the first pre-fall collection we’ve fallen for.

As much as I loved Jonathan Simkhai's pool party-esque spring '13 show his enormous pre-fall collection is something us city girls can really behind. Each piece looks super special without seeming too abstract or unwearable.

We went through the line, piece-by-piece, together with the designer--sort of like we were out shopping (which I guess I was). "Would you you ever wear a full skirt?" Simkhai asked me, picking up on the fact that my look is a bit more boyish than the average fashion editor. But his pre-fall offerings really do have something for everyone from tops with ruffles and full skirts to the jogging shorts we just saw Kristen Stewart wearing. But even the girlier pieces have our kind of edge. "I designed this collection while keeping in mind what girls like, what they want to wear, and what they have a need for. Everything can be worn together," notes Simkhai. We also talked with him about how easy it is to mix this kind of wardrobe with fast fashion or boutique lines—his favorites are Zara and American Two Shot in NYC, where his line is sold. After discussing the merits of this season's Zara wool coats, Simkhai sighed, "Ah, fashion. I love it though," sounding like he really meant it.

Where would I wear the collection? I'm glad you asked; the collared shirt to press previews, the leather T-shirt to the countless fashion events I cover for NYLON, the neon kick flare trousers to parties with friends, and the boxy varsity jacket to lunch on the weekends. I'll be worrying about what to wear a lot less. So you won't have to worry either, click here to shop.
