All The Details Behind FKA twigs’ Stunning Back Tattoo At The Met Gala

Back, back, back it up

When red carpet events come to town, FKA twigs always shows up and steals the show before it has even begun. With Robert Pattinson by her side, the English singer-songwriter and dancer looked ethereal in a Atelier Versace nude slip gown at the Met Gala last night. (After making her Met debut last year in a Christopher Kane-designed dress that featured a small penis on it, she definitely toned it down a notch this time.) Featuring a high slit, the dress showed off a whole lot of leg. What really made a statement though was the gigantic tattoo spread across her open back.

Drawn by celebrity makeup artist Anastasia Durasova using TEMPTU, the tattoo design was based on "mental geometry" and inspired by "protection." On Instagram, twigs further touched on this idea when she captioned a photo "my angels protect me." (Be gone, heathens!) The top of twigs' hands were also decorated with geometric designs.

“In order to prep the skin for the tattoo transfer, I took a piece of cotton and swabbed FKA twig’s upper back using the TEMPTU PRO 70 percent Isopropyl Alcohol," Durasova explained in a press release. "Then I used the TEMPTU PRO Application Pads to transfer the tattoo proof onto her skin. Next, using a thin paint brush, I used the TEMPTU PRO Dura makeup in Black and Dark Blue, to trace the tattoo proof. I then set the tattoo using the TEMPTU PRO Colorless Powder."

For those of you who are hesitant about permanent tattoos, this could be a new, fun way to test them out. Before we know it, temporary tattoos are going to be the cool, new way to accessorize for glamorous occasions. Check out some more shots of twigs, below.
