Frank Ocean Stars in Calvin Klein Ad

Could his album be next?

These days, any Frank Ocean news is good news, as the elusive singer gets set to release Boys Don't Cry, the hugely anticipated follow-up to his seminal work Channel Orange. Ocean has been slowly reintegrating himself into the culture, first with a series of cryptic clues about his album's release date and now as one of the stars of the newest Calvin Klein advertisements. The fall '16 campaign features a cabal of stars that include Kate Moss, Grace Coddington, Margot Robbie, and Young Thug, all of whom are asked to explain their idea of love.

But the main attraction here is Ocean, whose persona has become so mysterious that anytime he speaks in public, we have no choice but to listen. Here, Ocean is asked about what music means to him. "If you keep it up for four or five weeks, and then you stop, you feel like you’re missing something in your day. That’s what music is for me—it feels like a necessary act.”

Ocean then gets philosophical about his thoughts on love. "It takes a mind to worry, a conscience to feel ashamed, but there’s no place to hide out here. You romanticise what’s in the past—which is fantasy, but it’s not how I want it done. Fantasy plays the role of a supplement. You draw on fantasy to make things hyper-real.”
