How To Stay In On Halloween And Still Have Fun

no budget? no problem.

There are many different kinds of party animals in the animal kingdom, and on Halloween, we get to observe many of them: From the girls dressed like cats to the legitimate witches honoring Samhain, there's no wrong way to celebrate this spooky day. You don't even have to leave your house to do it. After all, someone's got to be home for those trick-or-treaters, right?

To help you feel inspired to have the best night in ever, we threw our own little party with a tight budget and a whole lot of creativity. With the help of prop stylist Chloe Daley, it's inspired by our ultimate recluse goddesses, Big Edie and Little Edie Beale of Grey Gardens. So, grab your favorite friends, some snacks, and prepare to have the weirdest, most Instagrammable night in of all time.

Late Night Sardine Fest

Don't forget to invite pets to your party—that's the best part of staying in, in our opinion!

Edie's Lounge Look

This one's easy: Wrap a scarf around your head and pin a brooch on top. Combine it with your favorite nightgown and most gothic lipstick.

Lay Around

Forget the chairs. Your guests will be perfectly happy to lounge around on your bed. Daley suggests mixing satin and floral sheets to add to the vibe.

BFF Costume

You don't need a specific Halloween costume to dress up with your best friend. We love how spooky these coordinated vintage coats and blue lips feel. Now, practice making the same "dead inside" face.

Keep It Classy-ish

Not sure what to serve without breaking the bank? There's a certain charm to keeping it simple—we had whiskey out of teacups and a plate of doughnuts.

Bodega Feast

This party should be a safe space for your wildest snack cravings. Go to your local bodega or grocery store ahead of time and stock up on whatever makes you feel nostalgic, and serve it out of dishes instead of the bags. We promise your guests will be into it, too.

Diamonds and popcorn—our new favorite combination.

Beauty Station

Another fun idea we tried was leaving out beauty products for friends to play with. Why not have a nail polish and lipstick table?

Instant Edie Costume

Finally, for more costume inspiration, check out this other version of the Edie. Daley suggests wearing a silk scarf around your torso like a strapless top with tights, and a sweater wrapped around your waist like a skit. Throw some slippers on for some truly authentic recluse vibes.

Red lipstick doesn't hurt, either.
