What happens when you mix boldly bohemian details with unexpected silhouettes? You get one perfect wedding dress collection made for a free-spirited bride.

HOUGHTON pulled off exactly that for its Spring/Summer 2017 presentation this weekend, its cool-bride aesthetic visible in everything from unabashedly sheer fabrics to wide-legged wedding jumpsuits. While the looks are anything but traditional, they all exude an air of timeless romance.

Keeping HOUGHTON's signature bride in mind—one that's not afraid to stand out on her wedding day—designer Katharine Polk paired clean-lined designs with cutting-edge touches. "I was inspired by the shapes and effects created by layering. A voluminous, ruffled plissé lace evokes a romantic silhouette with a modern edge," says Polk.

The modern edge came in the form of delicate bodysuits, horsehair-trimmed capelets, and see-through skirts worn over fishnet stockings. But, in true HOUGHTON fashion, the collection also gave a nod to the staples of the '90s: embellished chokers, high-waisted trousers, and flutter sleeves. Each look took on a different personality as netted catsuits were styled underneath gowns and rompers, and paired with separates like crepe skirts and wide-leg pants—styles that are meant to be mixed and matched to take you from engagement parties (like your bridal shower and bachelorette) to your wedding day and honeymoon.

"Gowns with HOUGHTON’s signature cutouts layered over lace bodysuits and catsuits add dimension and texture along with a subtle sexiness. The collection continues to translate as ready-to-wear for the bride and can be styled and worn everyday to wedding day," says Polk.

As if this brand needed any more cool points, this season it offered brides the option to shop directly from the presentation—a practice unheard of in the wedding industry, which is known to receive physical samples in bridal stores sometimes no sooner than six months post-showing. “I wanted to give our girls a chance to buy straight from the runway and do away with traditional bridal lead times by offering styles immediately for purchase during and following our presentation,” Polk said.

Effortlessly chic and contemporary, the collection is for the bride that marches down the aisle to the beat of her own drum. See the entire Spring/Summer 2017 line in the gallery, below, and shop the looks here.
