How To Get Rid Of Sleepy Eyes

Bye, bye Mr. Sandman

by nylon x clinique

If you're able to get eight hours of sleep every night, kudos. You're among the 12 percent, and probably never have to deal with waking up and doing whatever you can to wipe the sleep from your eyes. For the rest of us, cold spoons, cucumbers, and splashes of cold water to the face are our reality. There is a myriad of ways to go about fighting sleepy eyes—makeup being one of the easiest. What about those days when you just don't feel like reaching for the concealer, though?

Look no further than your freezer, cupboard, and grocery store. The solution to sleepy peepers has been waiting there, in your everyday life, all along. And if those don't work, there's a new beauty routine everyone is talking about. Ahead, four unexpected, but totally doable, ways to keep your eyes looking bright and fresh, even if you don't feel it. Wake up, wake up, wake up!

Dr. Colbert, of New York Dermatology Group, suggests an easy way to get the sleep off your eyes: begin with a glass of water. Hydration is key to healthy, awake-looking skin.

If you're looking to introduce a new product or two to your routine, Clinique's Pep-Start™ collection is a good place to begin. The Pep-Start™ Eye Cream hydrates the area around your eyes while the peptides (amino acids) in it encourage resilient, elastic skin—aka bright-looking eyes.

Another, similar to the cold spoon, trick is applying ice to your eyes. Dr. Colbert says it's "a quick way to reduce inflammation and puffiness."

Another unexpected but totally wonderful way to fight sleepy eyes is applying warm lavender tea bags to your eyes for a few minutes. This, according to Dr. Colbert, minimizes puffiness.
