How To Seduce A Libra

Tipping the scales of the most sought-after sign

by christie craft

Libra sits on the balance of the autumn equinox—the time when light and dark are equalized—and as the seventh sign of the zodiac, Libra season falls at exactly the halfway point in the astrological year. Cast literal sex goddess Venus into the mix as the Scales’ indulgent, harmony-focused ruling planet, and it’s clear why Libra is known as the most relationship-oriented sign of the 12. Diplomatic and sociable, Libra thrives on the company of others and is typically convinced that their best self can only be achieved with a supporting home team. Much like their sibling air signs, Gemini and Aquarius, Libra is as chatty and charming as they are popular and poised to be in the public eye.

Sure, being beloved by everyone socially has its perks and can be a slick path into playerhood (an easy life for a Libra, at least for a little while), but the Scales being the Scales crave harmony, and are perpetually seeking balance between two halves. At their best, Libra’s relationships radiate with peace and beauty—a healing, mutually nourishing alliance. But people-pleasing Libra has some qualities of limp, room-temperature spaghetti in love, opting to hide honest feelings rather than ruffle any feathers, even when confronting the truth is compassionate. Even worse than soft-hearted Scales’ aversion to raising negative energy is their tendency to prematurely confess love and adoration, setting the scene for a months-long lead on. Still, being with a lovey-dovey Libra is an experiment in social pairings—one no sign should pass up. After the jump, your complete guide to the hearts and minds of the zodiac’s most partnership-ready sign, Libra.

Dating + Hooking Up: The Libra Approach

Dating can be complicated and tedious for many signs, but Libra is the last to complain. The child of Venus not only loves the social intrigue that comes along with getting to know someone new, but the seventh sign of the zodiac loves love. Just the idea of love, being loved, and loving in return is simply heavenly to Libra—even if reality doesn’t reflect these high-minded air signs’ values. Falling in love is a sport to the Scales, something that should be done as often as possible in life, consequences be damned. True, Libra moves swiftly and fearlessly into the L-word zone, even when treading lightly and slowly toward a love relationship serves their future interests.

Libra’s impulse to partner up quickly stems from this sign’s Venusian obsession with romance, but also with their constant quest for balancing two halves. The seventh sign intrinsically believes that they function at their highest and happiest when committed and never truly feel complete when solo, even losing their life focus and equilibrium if single for too long. Libra can be independent to be sure, but the Scales know that they’re only as good as the company they keep, viewing their alliances and relationships as all-star teams and representations of themselves. Casting their crew—dating, going out, meeting loads of new people—is half the fun for the super-social Scales, though.

Air signs are prone to anxiety, but Venus-ruled Libra’s most nervous moments are during the drafting process. Libra carries a serious case of FOMO when it comes to the dating game: With so many choices, who could choose just one—and what if they choose wrong? The thought paralyzes Libra, ironically pushing them to make a decision on commitment, lickety-split. With a mind that becomes flustered easily and an idealistic gullibility in matters of the heart, settling for the wrong person (or the right person at the wrong time) is typical for the Libra personality.

Out of all the signs, Libra is the most likely to become mired in dysfunctional relationships long after they’ve run their course. This peace-

loving air sign is all about friendship and remaining connected, and will go to great lengths to avoid conflict or fighting of any kind, even if it means sacrificing themselves or a big chunk of their standards (and time, frankly). Libra loathes any scenarios that come with tense, uncomfortable energy, and would rather spin their heart’s wheels unproductively forever than risk cutting ties, even when telling the truth is the most compassionate, honorable option. Likewise, thanks to Libra’s untamable social prowess, the Scales have a bit of a reputation as swinging singles and major players. Of course, because of Libra’s tremendous focus on partnership with a capital P, these flighty periods of gadding about town are usually brief phases.

Libra’s indecision and slight spinelessness in the face of choice can lead to more conflict rather than less, but when the Scales hit the right balance with the right person, there’s beautiful music to be made. These personalities give 100 percent of themselves to their partner(s), giving and taking equally in a relationship based on fairness and harmony. Though Libras are notorious for becoming intoxicated by love—addicted to the romance, vacations, and adoration, sometimes even skewing their reality drastically—Libras are known to be excellent listeners and judges. This is a sign that rivals the nurturing energy of Cancer the Crab and the cuddly nature of Taurus, their unlikely sibling of Venus.

Compatibility

Each person’s individual astrological makeup can be found in their natal chart, which outlines the positions and aspects of the planets, houses, and signs in the heavens at the exact moment and location of your birth. Everyone on Earth possesses a personality that’s comprised of all 12 zodiac signs, which makes your sun sign (or “native” sign) less important when looking at the bigger picture. Still, statistics don’t lie when it comes to how astrology can strengthen interpersonal chemistry. Astrologers look to several factors in determining who you’re compatible—or mismatched—with, including your sun sign, rising sign, and where Venus places in the chart, among many other things.

Those born under the sign of Libra, roughly between September 23 and October 23, and those with a Libra ascendant (or rising sign) possess highly intellectual and socially driven personalities that require quite a bit of stimulation. Allowing a sign like Libra to cool into boredom is fatal to the longevity of any relationship—but don’t worry, you’ll still be in the friend zone forever. Libra the Scales attracts congenial, bubbly energies from sibling air signs Gemini and Aquarius, who have just the right mix of intelligence and interpersonal sway to keep Libra happy and focused. Fire signs—Sagittarius, Leo, and especially Aries—are some of the most attractive matches for airy Libra, and these signs will often become hooked on Libra’s easygoing, adventurous party vibe. In turn, Libra will admire any fire sign’s strength and resolve in battle, as well as their comfort in the limelight and speed in the fastlane (bonus points if said fire sign is an athlete—Libras looove ballers of all kinds). Taurus, an earth sign, shares Venus as a ruling planet with Libra, making them unlikely (but cuddly) bedfellows of the Scales. Most romantic relationships between these wildcard matches are short-lived, but these two signs’ love of beauty, comfort, and class will be the ties that bind them together in friendship for life.

Driven By Desire: What Libra Wants

Obviously, love-starved Libra just wants to be loved—and is that so wrong? But these so-called straightforward signs have many layers tucked under that placid, smiley exterior. Libra’s number one mission in life is to balance and harmonize, to bring beauty to every person, place, and situation these gentle signs find themselves connected to. These are the peacemakers and the stylists, the justice-seekers as well as the great thinking beauties of the zodiac.

Libra seeks beauty and comfort just as much as they seek equity, fairness, and understanding. The Scales’ quiet strength is their ability to view the world through the eyes of others, weighing differing points of view and perspectives to make the best choices. Libra is a master of compromise and will essentially do whatever it takes to keep the entire brood happy, even if that requires self-sacrifice. These signs will go to great lengths to avoid conflict and will not take well to anyone with unpredictable or reckless emotions, particularly if a temper, lewdness, or vulgar manners are present.

Notoriously popular, Libra needs to be set free in their social scene with someone who can keep up with a heady intellectual conversation without becoming insecure and stymying Libra’s conquests of friendship. Even more so than Aquarius, Libra is socially fluid to the max and needs to be stimulated with laughter, elegance, intrigue, and a swathe of diverse personalities to lean on in their social circle. Jealous types need not apply: Libra is known as quite the flirt, but not because they’re disloyal, untrustworthy, or shady—nothing could be further from the truth. Tough they can be a tad manipulative and political, these folks can’t help themselves when faced with a good time.

Seducing Libra

Being the number-one sign known for their physical beauty and appearance is no accident: Libra is all about aesthetics, often leading with looks and taking great pains to remain perfectly poised and presentable to the public. Libra works hard to be pretty (even if they don’t really have to—those born under this sign are known to be naturally elegant, graceful, and beautiful), so looks factor heavily into their initial attraction. Approaching these personalities with equal attention to your appearance is paramount to setting the bait in your trap. Less is more—that is, revealing painstaking effort in looking beautiful to a Libra could result in turning them off and putting an icky taste in their mouth. Trying too hard is gross to Libra, who barely has to try at all when it comes to their fantastic looks and killer style.

Likewise, Libra tends to become attracted to a chic sense of style and those with a flair for design. Libra’s whole being is bent on making the world more beautiful and balanced, so naturally, these personalities will respond favorably to others’ efforts, as well. After all, Libra is ruled by materialistic Venus, compelling this sign to surround themselves with beautiful, expensive things and people. That being said, showering the Scales in lavish gifts, romantic experiences, and adoring compliments is the direct route into Libra’s life, and maybe even their heart. Like Venus, ancient goddess of all things romantic, sensual, and luxurious, Libra just loves to be worshipped in the most material of senses, giving a few of these folks a shadow side for superficiality, materialism, and straight gold-digging. Don’t forget fragrance as your final touch: Discerning Libra can smell expensive from a mile away (and they respond strongly to scent as an accessory).

You’ll need to be whip-smart if you want to keep up with Libra, though. These signs are so much more than a pretty face, hiding a wickedly brilliant brain with a lust for intellectual conversation and learning under th

heir tranquil visage. Conversation is key, so be sure to step to Libra only when you know you’ve got something fascinating under your hat to share. Communicating clearly is vital in a partner for Libra, who’s known to use their friends, lovers, and confidants as sounding boards for all their ideas and whimsies. Libra is looking for a patient, active listener who they can continually run to for weighing the pros and cons of their game plans and strategies. Don’t show Libra you’re exhausted or annoyed by their constant questions and need for input—that’s a clear-cut way to drive them away (and hurt their feelings).

Graceful and thoughtfully reserved, Libra is no wild child, but still, these signs can’t stand to be fenced in. The seventh sign of the zodiac is in its zone swimming in a social soup, which means this sign loves to mix and mingle—and occasionally flirt and be flirted with, noncommittally, of course. Libra is incredibly charming, attractive, and popular, and won’t have that held against them by a jealous or controlling lover. Act fast when you start feeling a Libra—they’re never single for long—but never, ever pressure them into committing to anything. Notorious for their indecisiveness and flip-flopping thought processes, Libra likes to do things on their own timetable, so you’ll need to wear your patience hat if you plan on sticking with the Scales.

Libra appreciates social graces, especially acting gently in the face of hardship and aggression. Because they can’t risk shattering their glassy exterior, Libra won’t tolerate vulgarity, violence, or bad manners in anyone around them (after all, Emily Post, the queen of modern etiquette herself, is a Libra). Perhaps the best piece of advice for hooking a Libra would be to wriggle your way into their social squad, which isn’t very difficult despite their discernment and values. For Libra, love and friendship are intertwined—you can’t have one without the other, especially for the balance-seeking Scales. Countless Libras find love with friends, so much so that it’s unusual to find a Libra coupled with someone they weren’t friends with first. Opening up as a buddy can establish deep bonds of understanding and trust that mean way more to Libra than a fancy vacation or piece of jewelry.

Getting Down: Sex with Libra

There’s no getting around Libra’s sex appeal. Though the seventh sign may not have the legendary conquests and drama of their autumnal sister sign, Scorpio, falling for Libra’s fairytale smile and genuine congeniality is an easy pleasure trap to become ensnared in. But don’t get it twisted—just because Libra’s been grinning like a goon and chatting you up all night doesn’t mean they’re keen to jump into the sack with you, so don’t expect it or even suggest it. These charming signs are super flirty and extremely easily scandalized by vulgarity and impure propositions.

Despite their distaste for bawdiness and blue humor, Libras tend to be the sign most likely to experiment with sex early in adolescence (yes, even more than their sinister neighbor Scorpio). Why? Because the Scales are known to be beautiful, alluring, and relationship-oriented, Libras tend to be early bloomers when it comes to connecting romantically. From puberty, Libra is in high demand, always seeking out the other half to balance them, and is usually not without a lover or S.O. for more than five to 10 minutes. Air signs like Libra demand an intellectual connection before a physical one can be made, making the lead-up to sex stimulating and fun. Being able to stay curled up in the sheets with lively, engaging conversation is equally (if not more) important to the quality of the sex itself. In every relationship, Libra seeks friendship and perspective.

Balance-seeking Libra craves a high level of give and take in the boudoir, but more often become sexy people-pleasers to the max when it comes to getting down and dirty. Though Libra expects the same effort and adoration, this sign will lead by example first by dishing out a lavish display of Venus’ most sensual delights. Equity in sex is more important in long-standing relationships, though they’re always content to be either on the giving or receiving end at any time. When in relationships, Libras are not selfish lovers. Selfish lovers are a key turn-off for Libra, and they expect to be given ecstasy and pleasure equal to what heaven they’ve doled out.

Physically, Libra’s erogenous zone lies in the small of their back as well as their butt. (If you’re wondering, yes, Libra is the sign most likely to be into light anal play and butt stuff, by the way.) Romance—the corniest: the roses, jewelry, yacht, and candlelight—is what really hooks any Libran into the mood. Stay far away from overly blunt communication or directness in the bedroom; Libra may misinterpret this as coarse behavior and feel threatened. Libra the Scales isn’t one for super-rough sex, nor are they into anything that deviates too far from the “classics.” This sign is absolutely good, giving, and game with their partners, but anything that could be interpreted as overly aggressive, tasteless, cheap, or nasty is not the vibe for classy Libra.

Miscommunicating emotions is a big stumbling point for Libra. Ironically, one of the most skilled communicators of the zodiac is a complete mess when it comes to talking about heavy feelings, including sex. Libra isn’t insincere, they’re just pristinely polite at all costs, which sometimes stifles them from speaking their mind honestly—like telling you to beat it and take a hike afterwards. Libras are the number-one sign to start ghosting once things become awkward or weird, so don’t be surprised when this gorgeous catch slips through your fingers after unsatisfying sex.
