The ‘I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House’ Trailer Arrives Just In Time For Halloween

Yesterday we told you about Netflix's original content revolution, thanks to an $800 million dollar shot in the arm that will allow it to continue producing shows and movies at a breakneck speed. But part of the streaming giant's next phase also includes a greater focus on the acquisition of original titles.

Take, for example, the indie I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, a chilling ghost story that premiered last month at the Toronto International Film Festival. In the past, more traditional distributors would pick up a film like this, release it in select theaters, and then hope it finds an audience. In this new landscape, Netflix can acquire films, which can then have room to breathe in their expansive catalog for months before being discovered, without the pressure making a profit during a limited theatrical run.

I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House is a perfect example of that new model coming to fruition. Starring The Affair's Ruth Wilson as a young nurse who takes care of a best-selling ghost story author during her final days, it's the kind of movie that would have no chance of making a financial return on screen, but that can thrive in a space like Netflix. All we really need is the chilling first trailer below to convince us that director Osgood Perkins' little indie is worth checking out. The effusive reviews out of Toronto certainly don't hurt either.
