The First Full Trailer For ‘I Love Dick’ Is Full Of Butts, Passion, And Baby Lambs

“Dear Dick…”

Fact: One of the best things about living in New York City is seeing what books other people read on the subway. (Public transportation is so great, you guys.) And in the last few years, there's been one book that I've enjoyed spotting in people's hands more than anything else: I Love Dick.

Admittedly, part of the pleasure in seeing Chris Kraus' I Love Dick out in the wild is how shocked people get by the title. (It's like what happens when you wear this tote bag out and about, as I do.) More than that, though, it's always comforting to know that a new generation is reading Kraus' seminal novel, which explores issues of obsession, love, boundaries, and why it is, exactly, that women are thought to be "debasing themselves when we expose the conditions of our own debasement." It's brilliant.

All of this is to say that I've been eagerly awaiting the release of the full adaptation of Kraus' novel by Transparent creator Jill Soloway with bated breath. Ever since the first episode dropped last year, and a full season was confirmed, it's felt positively painful waiting for the whole thing to drop. Well, today the pain was eased a bit with the release of the first full trailer. And it was worth the wait.

It starts off with Kathryn Hahn as Chris, with an epistolary voice-over narrating one of her many letters to the titular Dick. She says, "Dear Dick, This is about obsession..." What a great start, really, because isn't everything good about obsession? (Yes. Maybe.)

The trailer continues to set up the triangular dynamic between Chris, her husband Sylvère, and Dick, played by a frequently unclothed Kevin Bacon, who is described, while walking shirtless down a Texas street with a baby lamb slung over his shoulders, as being "like a Roman God bringing the spirit of sex into our lives."

Watch the trailer in full, above, and get ready for all things Dick when the series premieres on Amazon on May 12.
