Sorry Seth Rogen, but it looks like James Franco has a new cinematic partner in crime. After teaming up in 2013's frat noir Spring Breakers, Franco is once again sharing the screen with Selena Gomez, this time in the upcoming drama In Dubious Battle. On paper, the Franco-Gomez partnership might feel a bit mismatched, he an Oscar-nominated actor and she a pop star still trying to find her footing in the film world. But anyone who's seen Harmony Korine's dreamy heist flick can attest that Gomez and Franco had more on-screen chemistry than a Breaking Bad RV.
It's no wonder Franco enlisted Gomez for his new film, which is based on the classic 1936 John Steinbeck novel about Jim Nolan, a migrant worker who fights back against the oppressive landowners that are cheating their employees out of fair wages. In the first trailer, we see Nat Wolff as Nolan, Gomez as his love interest, and an impressive supporting cast that includes Bryan Cranston, Ashley Greene, Josh Hutcherson, Zach Braff, and Keegan Allen.
Ever the multihyphenate, Franco also appears in the film, which means we get to see if his chemistry with Gomez was just a fluke. In Dubious Battle will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival before screening at the Toronto International Film Festival. Watch the trailer above.
