Jennifer Hudson’s Cover Of “Purple Rain” Will Make You Cry

Purple tears

Less than 24 hours have passed since the tragic news of Prince's death, and the whole world continues to weep for him. Not only have some celebrities already expressed what this loss means to them but some of the first, out of what we imagine will be many, tributes to the music icon have been made. At last night's performance of The Color Purple on Broadway, Jennifer Hudson closed the show by saying a few words about the late legend and their last exchange.

"Not too long ago, [Prince] called me while we were here and asked me to come out to this event because he was writing his book and he told me you can bring your cast members along," she said. "We were honored to be in his presence one last time and we got to have that moment... He said his music will live on and he will live through his music so we want to keep him alive today with this song."

As a tribute to his greatness, the entire cast then performed "Purple Rain," and it will wreck your fragile soul. The pure passion, emotion, and love can be heard from every voice on this beautiful cover. Try to hold back your purple tears while you watch the video, below. We guarantee it will break another piece of your purple heart.
