When news of Friday's inhuman Paris attacks first broke, we went through a kaleidoscope of emotions: shock, fear, disbelief, and sadness, before ultimately landing on anger. All we wanted to do was shout profanities so loud that the heavens heard us, because sometimes the cruelty of the world is just too much to bear. And based on the opening of Sunday night's episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver is right there with us.
“Look, it’s hardly been 48 hours and much is still unknown, but there are a few things we can say for certain,” Oliver said. “And this is when it actually helps to be on HBO, where those things can be said without restraint, because after the many necessary and appropriate moments of silence, I’d like to offer you a moment of premium cable profanity.”
From there Oliver went on an F word-laced tirade against the Paris attackers, that was ruthless, crass, and totally appropriate.
Take it away, John.
