Lana Del Rey Wrote A Song About All The Things We Miss About Coachella

Listen to her prayer for peace

At the root of every Lana Del Rey song, is a call for freedom. (John Fassold hilariously attempted to break down her mindset in this video, which we think you'll enjoy.) The singer-songwriter's latest offering is "Coachella—Woodstock In My Mind," a tune in which she fantasizes about the good ol' Woodstock days when the youth were preoccupied with finding love in a hopeless place, flower power for peace, and fighting against war.

It's a somber slow song that shows a shaky Del Rey questioning her faith in the universe, desperate for answers from God himself. Del Rey is in search of her own "stairway to heaven," but she can't seem to find it in Indio, California, at this current time. Personally speaking, we're not that surprised, given the flower crown-wearing individuals that have been taking over the music festivals lately, but we digress.

"I'd take my time for the climb up to the top of it," she sings in the chorus. "I'd trade the fame and the fortune and the legend/ I'd give it all away if you give me just one day to ask him one."

When Del Rey shared an a capella bit of the song on Instagram, she further elaborated on the troublesome feelings she was dealing with at the time:

I'm not gonna lie—I had complex feelings about spending the weekend dancing whilst watching tensions w North Korea mount.

I find It's a tightrope between being vigilantly observant of everything going on in the world and also having enough space and time to appreciate God's good earth the way it was intended to be appreciated.

On my way home I found myself compelled to visit an old favorite place of mine at the rim of the world highway where I took a moment to sit down by the sequoia grove and write a little song.

I just wanted to share this in hopes that one individual's hope and prayer for peace might contribute to the possibility of it in the long run.

Hope everyone has a nice day,

with love from California

We're still not sure when exactly Lust for Life is dropping, but we certainly like what we've heard from the album so far. (Plus, there's a Stevie Nicks collaboration on deck, so we're expecting our minds to be fully blown.) At the rate she's going with these releases, Del Rey could potentially roll the record out in the midst of festival season summer.
