Matthew McConaughey: “It’s Time For Us To Embrace” Donald Trump

Are you sure, Matthew?

Not everyone in Hollywood is speaking out against Donald Trump. The president's first two weeks in office have provided plenty of fodder for liberal celebrities to criticize his radical policies in very public forums like the Women's March On Washington or more recently at the SAG Awards. But, Matthew McConauughey is taking a different approach.

While speaking to the U.K.'s ChannelFi about his new crime saga Gold, the Oscar-winning actor was asked about the intense criticism facing the president, especially when it comes to the Hollywood community. McConaughey's response—in which he tells his fellow Americans to give Trump "a break"—was far more pragmatic than those of some of his colleagues.

“He’s our president,” McConaughey continued:

And it’s very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time that we’ve ever had. At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace, shake hands with this fact, and be constructive with him over the next four years. So, even those who most strongly may disagree with his principles or things he’s said and done—which is another thing, we’ll see what he does compared to what he had said—no matter how much you even disagreed along the way, it’s time to think about how constructive can you be. Because he’s our president for the next four years. At least.

There's no telling how Hollywood will react to McConaughey's controversial comments, but we're about to find out.
