Melissa McCarthy is one of the most committed physical comedians of her generation. So it was a given that when it came time for her to compete against Jimmy Fallon in a lip sync battle on last night's Tonight Show, that she would not hold back. McCarthy kicked things off with an aggro version of DMX's “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” (is there any other kind?) while Fallon went for Melanie’s “Brand New Key.” While both were fun, they felt a little toned down. Thanks to stars like Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt raising the bar with lavish productions on Lip Sync Battle, you need to go all out to leave a real impression.
Fallon and McCarthy did just that on their second songs. All Fallon needed was a pillow to nail the aching intensity of Zayn Malik's "Pillowtalk," which set the stage for McCarthy to win this contest in a landslide. And she did just that. Wearing a pair of industrial goggles for her rendition of “Colors of the Wind” from the Pocahontas soundtrack, McCarthy got bombarded with a literal typhoon of props, from rubber birds to stuffed wolves and an explosion of glitter. Rightfully so, it earned a standing ovation. Watch it, above.
