She’s baaaack

M.I.A. is once again taking on the powers that be in the brand-new music video for her song "P.O.W.A." The professional provocateur name-checks everyone from Donald Trump to Rihanna in the abrasive new track, which surprised fans who thought her most recent album AIM would be her last.

There's no word yet on whether or not "P.O.W.A." will be featured on an upcoming full-length release, or if it's just a one-off. One thing is clear: M.I.A. has a lot to say about the current state of things. "Throw up my finger and I’m taking on the [Trump] Tower and Super-kala fascist racist espi-ala-tazors,” she raps over a thunderous beat. “I’m not Rihanna, I’m not Madonna, I’m not Mariah or Ariana/I’m been around in this world causing drama/The real spice girl, hot girl power.”

The video, which was directed by M.I.A. herself, features the singer in some very vibrant wardrobes set against some seriously barren backdrops. It's the kind of visual daring that has come to define M.I.A.'s career. Hopefully, there's a lot more where this came from.
