Sunday Sizzle: Liana Bank$ Likes It Spicy

The singer serves soul food with a side of funk

When summertime finally rolls around, nothing is more fun than the combo of good food, good music, and good company. So every weekend, we’re bringing you BBQ must-haves from the hands of our favorite artists so you can get a real taste of what their lives are actually like. Get your hands on the Sunday Sizzle while it’s hot.

We've been grilling the hottest stars of summer sixteen for their BBQ tips all season long, but like all good things, Sunday Sizzle must come to an end. Our final piece of cookout wisdom comes from none other than Liana Bank$.

A Queens, New York, girl through and through, Bank$ was raised on a blend of soul, gospel, and jazz. Her debut single "LVL UP" dropped in February, and she's since delivered more sultry tracks, like "M.O.N.," a true windows-down anthem, and "Off," a smooth cut worthy of the after-after party. With her first album, Insubordinate, in the works, there's no stopping the singer.

Unsurprisingly, she brings the heat with her ultimate backyard grub. "I love Caribbean food and anything spicy," she says. "There's nothing like jerk chicken straight from the grill!"

Staying true to her roots, Bank$ pairs her dish with "Before I Let Go" by Frankie Beverly and Maze. She tells us the classic funk jam is best enjoyed "singing at the top of my lungs as my neighbors make their way to my door." And for a more 2016-appropriate banger? She prefers "Work" by Rihanna and Drake. (In an email, she admits she maybe lost her voice at RiRi's concert.) Bank$'s picks prove that although her career is just heating up, she tackles the BBQ like a seasoned pro.
