Premiere: Darling “Echoes”

When your band breaks up…you just start a better one the very next day…

by Josh Madden

The day after your band breaks up is as good a time as any to start a new band--or so Darling duo Gary Harding and James McGiure thought. The fellas sat down at a cafe in Dublin and scribbled down everything they wanted to achieve, and then spent all of 2012 working out of a spare room in their parents' house. After recording a slew of demos they managed to get some tracks in front of famed producer Stephen Lipson (Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Grace Jones, Ultravox and Pet Shop Boys) and within weeks they were holed up in Lipsons London studio retooling the songs and forming what would become their debut EP.

The first single from Darling is a bass-driven track with piano-laced verses and reverbed-out vocals, which recall certain VHS or Beta and LCD Soundsystem vibes we really love. The lyrics and vocal arrangement definitely have a New Order and Pet Shop Boys feel. The EP will be released in Ireland on October 25th and the UK on the 28th and the band is in the process of announcing a handful of tour dates.
