premiere: melo-x “a tree must be a tree”

The cinematic visual for the first single from the album GOD:Pièce de Résistance…

by Josh Madden

The last time we spoke with Melo-X was in June, after he had just finished his EP GOD:HiFi. Although was headed out on tour for a bit, he promised us a full-length by the fall and he's kept his word. Today he sent over the first track with an accompanying visual and all we can say is, WOW! The single "A Tree Must Be A Tree" is the first release from the forthcoming album GOD: Pièce de Résistance (out November 5th), and it's perfect.

The cinematic visual which accompanies this lead single was directed by Rodney Passe, and takes cues from the classic 1970's film Badlands. A violent conflict lands two lovesick on the run as they head out to deserted beaches and desolate landscapes. The track, in classic Melo-X genre-defying style, sounds like a Radiohead-Maxwell-DJ Shadow jam session, blending the bit-crushing electronic drums and organic feel of acoustic guitars with his voice. This beautiful music video is going to leave you wanting more, but the good news is, the wait for the full length isn't long. Until then you can buy this single HERE, and if you haven't already, download GOD:HiFi HERE.
