Watch The Trailer For ‘Woodshock,’ The Rodarte Sisters’ Directorial Debut

The moody movie stars Kirsten Dunst

by Eric Shorey

It's been a while since we've seen a melancholic Kirsten Dunst wander breathlessly through a gorgeous forest, but she's back doing just that in the trailer for the upcoming movie Woodshock directed by Kate and Laura Mulleavy. The sisters, who are also the brains behind the award-winning fashion brand Rodarte, are making their directorial debut with the lushly lit and melodramatic art film. Check out the new trailer, right here:

Woodshock tells the story of a mourning woman named Theresa, played by Dunst, whose world seems to be increasingly resembling a dream as she falls under the influence of a powerful and hypnotic drug. With aesthetic hints of both Lars von Trier and Todd Haynes, the moody and lavishly shot movie looks to be a big step in a new direction for the sisters who are far more known for fashion than cinema.

Shooting for Woodshock began back in the summer of 2015, and the film is set to be released this fall. Although some buzz existed when production began, a long silence about the film throughout 2016 had some wondering if the sisters had been rather busy with their other endeavors and slowed down on the project's completion.

The Hollywood Reporter said that directing had always been an interest for the business partners and siblings. The two had previously designed the costumes for Black Swan, although they were controversially not credited in the film.

Woodshock, which will also feature performances from Pilou Asbæk, Joe Cole, Lorelei Linklater, and Steph DuVall, is set to debut on September 15.
