Watch ‘The Ring Vs. The Grudge’ (‘Sadako Vs. Kayako’) Trailer

For the rest of your life, probably

No matter how hard the rest of the world tries, no country can churn out utterly terrifying, nightmare-inducing horror films quite like Japan can. Now, after years of making us look over our shoulders at night, writers Kôji Suzuki and Takashi Shimizu, who wrote The Ring and The Grudge respectively, have teamed up to make one mega film: Sadako vs. Kayako, or The Ring vs. The Grudge

As Slash Film reports, the concept for the film was originally an April Fools' joke, but came to fruition after NBC Universal Japan saw fans' enthusiastic responses to the idea. While the English subtitle-lacking trailer doesn't technically tell us much, it shows us that an unknowing group watches The Ring video and summons Samara from inside The Grudge house. The current inhabitants of the home don't take too kindly to the foreign extraterrestrial being and begin an all-out war of the underworld. It looks pretty frightening, as expected, and will probably turn you off the VHS medium for the rest of your life.

Directed by Kôji Shiraishi, the film hits Japanese theaters on June 18. So far, there's no word on whether the film will be adapted for American audiences. While the two films have previously been remade into American classics, their sequels did not perform well. Production on The Ring 3 has been delayed numerous times, and The Grudge 3 went straight to DVD.
