the best boho beauty moments from the sag awards

messy waves, muted lipstick, and braids

The best beauty looks at last night's SAG awards steered clear of the Old Hollywood hair and makeup inspiration that we've come to expect from the red carpet. Instead, a more boho vibe took center stage, with truly messy waves, whimsical braids, and a lipstick that made us actually like the whole marsala thing.

All in all, our favorite looks felt more in line with music-festival beauty than award-show fanciness—and that's why we loved them so much. Click through to see what we mean.

Okay, to be completely honest, we love Maisie Williams' hair the best when she's in her Arya Stark get-up (who doesn't love a tomboyish bob?). But this soft, wavy updo is a closer runner-up. And, her marsala-hued lipstick is speaking directly to our '90s-loving hearts: Please forgive us for being so negative when this color was announced. It really does look good on a pout, especially when paired with gold eyeshadow and a cute little nose ring.

We're not really sure what to call the stunning creation on Laverne Cox's head—French-braid-pomp? Extreme braided headband? Badass hair tiara from heaven? Either way, we're super into it. And, because her roots are showing, there are some really amazing things happening with the patterns her various hair colors are making within the braid.

Oh, hello, perfect bohemian hair. Want to copy it, ASAP? Us too: Hairstylist Ben Skervin applied Vidal Sassoon's Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse on Keira Knightley's wet hair to give it some volume, blowdrying it with a round brush and curling the ends under. He curled it with a large-barrel curling iron, finishing with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series ColorFinity Dry Shampoo for that bed-head texture. If you have naturally wavy hair, you can probably just skip the curling and go right for the dry shampoo. Then, pull two small sections of hair on either side of your head backwards, and secure 'em with some bobby pins. Leave some pieces hanging in the front for a truly bohemian look.

Makeup artist Nick Barose used three different products to create that luminous, orange-red lip: Kiehl's Scented Lip Balm in #1 Cranberry, Lancôme's Le Crayon Lip Contour in Garnet, and Lancôme's L'Absolu Lipcolor in Caprice. Paired with elongated brows and ultra-luminous skin, her makeup was a fresh, edgy take on elegance. Also, can we talk about her hair? With crown rows gathered up into a braid crown, we're going to have to remember this one for sundress season.
