Luxury products with a Korean streetwear aesthetic

Luxury cosmetic brand Shu Uemura has collaborated with Korean powerhouse fashion designer Kathleen Kye (the brains behind the high-fashion, unisex streetwear line Kye) for their spring 2016 artist collaboration.

If you’ve seen the influx of Korean beauty brands in the market lately, you’ll notice something very distinct about them—the products are always super innovative and dressed in colorful, cutesy packaging. The Shu Uemura x Kye collection is no different. The 24-piece range includes colorful brow groomers, pH-balanced fluorescent lip balms, cushion blushes, defining eyeliner, cleansing oils, and conditioners—all packaged in Kye-inspired bold, witty, and colorful designs. The cartoon-like exteriors are comprised of drawings that hold symbolic messages: Band-Aids that represent “healing the youth;” hibiscus, Korea’s national flower; and a gummy tiger, which stands for Korea’s national anthem.

While the collection launches today, I had the opportunity to play with it over the weekend. The standouts were the POREfinest Cleansing Oil, the Eyebrow Manicures, and the Sheer Color Balms

The POREfinest Cleansing Oil has a watery, not oily, feel to it that left my skin feeling clean but still moisturized. It also smells like heaven—incredibly sweet and fresh. The tinted eyebrow gels add a subtle tint of color to your brows, giving you an effortless, cool look that has a definite K-pop feel to it. The balms contain just the right hint of sheer color and shimmer, and left my lips looking and feeling moist and dewy, without any sticky residue.

The products have a pretty wide price range, from $23 for the Eyebrow Manicure to $90 for the largest Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil. Overall, the collection is luxurious, innovative, and will make an adorable addition to your makeup bag.
