the fastest way to turn monday into a dance party.

Just when you thought things couldn't get any catchier than Sara Bareilles, Katy Perry, or even Britney Spears (yeah, we went there...), Sophie Stern comes along. This comparison is no exaggeration, either, especially given the LA songwriter first perfected her chops writing jams for #1 pop princesses like these (she's signed by the Grammy-winning  producer Dr. Luke). But after penning tracks for Spears, Kendrick Lamar, and Kesha, she's stepping out of the background and into the spotlight with her new project Sophie And The Bom Boms.

Fusing her radio-friendly pop melodies with seriously perky lyrics and an empowering sing-along chorus, her debut EP Shmixtape is candy-coated pop at its catchiest--as bubbly as a Pixie Stick and packed with the attitude of Sour Patch Kids. The entire EP drops on Columbia Records soon, but we've got an exclusive first listen at her first single "Pray." While the head-bobbing track might sound sweet, don't discount it as pure sugar just yet.

As she puts it, "It was cathartic for me to be able to write a song like ‘Pray’ for example, because it came from my struggle at the time and it’s my heart on the line.  I think the song has universal appeal because it’s a plea of wanting to be accepted for who you are and trying to follow your heart’s path, even when the world seems to be against you, which is something we all go through at one time or another in our lives."
