Watch The Trailer For The Upcoming Horror Film ‘Split’

‘Split’ is set to be the most realistic horror film of 2017

Compared to his past work, M. Night Shyamalan's newer films, with the exception of The Visit, have been falling a bit flat. His latest film, however, looks as if it may be one of his most legendary yet. Split begins when James McAvoy's Kevin abducts three teenage girls from a mall parking lot. From there, in true M. Night Shyamalan fashion, it all gets a lot more strange, and a hell of a lot more terrifying.

As we see in the trailer, the girls (played by Anya Taylor-Joy, Jessica Sula, and Haley Lu Richardson) discover that their captor has multiple personality disorder. And as Betty Buckley's character, psychologist Karen Fletcher, reveals, he has an unprecedented 23 personalities. There's a stern British woman, 9-year-old Hedwig, and the most terrifying and mysterious: The Beast. "He's done awful things to people, and he'll do awful things to you," Hedwig explains. As the girls fight to escape, they must learn about and manipulate each personality.

It seems to be void of the supernatural, so it's precisely the type of film that will keep you awake at night. Split will open in theaters January 20. In the meantime, watch the trailer, below.
