Watch The Official Trailer For Netflix’s New Show ‘The Get Down’

“With just a little courage, you could be something.”

Baz Luhrmann's first foray on the small screen is shaping up to be something spectacular. (You could've guessed that, though, considering Luhrmann is the visionary behind Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge!) The Get Down's Netflix debut is fast approaching and to keep spirits high, the streaming platform has a new trailer to hit the replay button on a couple of times.

The Get Down chronicles the last days of disco and the rise of hip-hop in New York City during the late 1970s. Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Herizen Guardiola, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Jaden Smith star. From the sounds of it, The Get Down's soundtrack is going to have a Hamilton-esque level of fandom. After all, what's a Baz Luhrmann production without an outstanding musical component? What's more, a voiceover at the end of the trailer lays it all out for us: "It's about music, man," the narrator says. "It'll move you forward and open up doors that everyone says are shut. It'll give you the whole world for free if you hold back nothing."

What is the get down, though? It's "life and destiny." It's also your future weekend binge-watch. The Get Down premieres August 12 on Netflix.
