‘The Hills’ Is Returning With A New Tell-All Special

Whatever was “Unwritten”

While MTV may not have created the first reality show (that honor goes to HBO for An American Family Revisited: The Louds 10 Years Later), they certainly created the beast that it became. After putting seven strangers in a house, they documented high school life in the privileged-filled Laguna Beach. That, of course, spawned The Hills—and later The City—arguably the most influential reality show for teens at the time. When it came to an end in 2010, its closing scene catapulted social media into mayhem. Was it all just an elaborate, four-year long scripted fabrication, or was there some truth to the series? For those still plagued by this question, there may be an end in sight: The Hills is reuniting for a special in honor of the show's 10-year anniversary.

Led by Lauren Conrad, or as she was and still is so affectionately called L.C., The Hills: That Was Then, This Is Now promises to go through the show's first five seasons (before Conrad left the show and was replaced by Kristin Cavallari) and reveal what was really happening. As L.C. says in the teaser, "Often, we would say, 'If you knew the real story, you would understand.' And what I'd like to do is tell that story." It will also show what life is like for the cast at this moment in time.

Will we find out what Heidi Montag "knew that she did"? Will we see the root of L.C.'s hatred for Justin Bobby? Only time will tell. The special airs August 7 at 8pm EST on MTV.
