the mermaid inn

Where the locals go…

by Christian Lavery

What should I eat? It’s a question you ask yourself numerous times a day, every day. And every day, the answer should be The Mermaid Inn. The casual, yet classy urban fish house cooks up the freshest, most mouthwatering seafood dishes that would make you think you were looking off into the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. But even though we’re not, and instead nestled into a quaint East Village setting, who are we to complain when the food is this good. The menu encompasses every seafood dish you can think of as you can choose to slurp down all kinds of oysters (they have an “oysterpedia” on their website), enjoy a number of fresh fish entrees, or go with our personal favorite, the lobster roll. Now I’m not going to say you should definitely get the lobster roll when you stop in, but you kind of have to get the lobster roll! It’s prepared flawlessly and sits in between a grilled brioche bun that tastes like a little slice of heaven. It comes with a side of thinly cut fries and, like any good seafood dish, everything on the plate was topped with just the right amount of Old Bay seasoning. Our meal was washed down with an iced tea and for dessert (let us finish before you start passing judgment on the amount of food we consume) The Mermaid Inn offers up a complimentary cup of pudding that makes the meal just that much better. Any of The Mermaid Inn’s three locations will get you hooked immediately so stop in for their daily happy hour, their Lobsterpalooza on Sundays, or just to grab a tasty lobster roll. Check out their full menu along with everything else they have to offer HERE. And for a brief moment, you may find yourself thinking you’re sitting alongside the ocean.
