private icon: the virgin suicides

celebrate the film’s anniversary with style tips from the lisbons.

by steff yotka

On this day in 2000, the world was introduced to Sofia Coppola's first feature film, The Virgin Suicides. Starring a young Kirsten Dunst and the ever-so-handsome Josh Hartnett, the film became a cult sensation that has inspired countless fashion collections and editorials with the ethereal, '70s stylings of its stars, the Lisbon sisters.

Although the Lisbon girls have very similar fashion senses (they did wear coordinating floral dresses to the prom), each girl's style is markedly unique, from Lux's red tee to Therese's hippie shirts. Find out how to dress like your favorite Lisbon sister in the slideshow while you queue up The Virgin Suicides on Netflix and daydream to "Playground Love" by Air.
