Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro starring in a movie about a septuagenarian who starts interning for a high-powered, younger executive seems about as silly as movie premises get, but the trailer for The Intern might surprise you. Director Nancy Meyers (Something's Gotta Give) has a knack for making sentimental movies that don't feel hackneyed or contrived, and it looks like she pulled it off here.
For the first half of the trailer, we're not exactly sure what this movie seems to be going for. Is it supposed to be a wacky comedy about an old guy trying to make it in a young person's world? Is it an icky May-December romantic comedy? Nope. It turns out The Intern is a simple story about an unlikely friendship, and it looks really, really sweet.
The Intern hits theaters on September 25.
