beauty queen: katy perry
red lips, long lashes, can't lose.
It's only been a couple of weeks since Katy Perry was named the newest Covergirl, but the singer got a jump start on her gig at last night's American Music Awards. Perry went the Old Hollywood route with voluminous waves, black liner, super long lashes, and red lips. It's a tried-and-true technique that works every time (yes, even on a Monday). Luckily for the rest of us, we can all copy Perry's glamour with Covergirl products from your corner drugstore. According to the singer's makeup artist Jake Bailey, the look was inspired by her embellished gown. "The moment I saw Katy's beautiful Oscar de la Renta gown, I knew we would do a red lip," he explained. "Pairing it with black liner and lots of lashes we created a look that is 'classic Katy.'" COVER IT: Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation in Buff Beige, $9.49"I started with a sheer application of Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation. This foundation is perfect for the red carpet because it provides full coverage but can be blended sheerly for light yet durable coverage. It lasts forever and the 20 SPF is great for a daytime red carpet event because they have to stand in the sun for so long!"
LENGTHEN AND LINE IT: Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire, $8.75; Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Melted Caramel
"For the eyes I started by creating a classic Hollywood eye line using Covergirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire. I love this pencil because you can create the look of a liquid liner but it's much easier to apply. I accentuated the crease of her lid using Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Melted Caramel, and finished with the Bombshell Volume Mascara in Very Black– it creates extreme volume!"
FINISH IT: Covergirl + Olay Pressed Powder in Light, $6.99, Clean Glow Blushin Roses, $7.82 and LipPerfection in Hot, $5.99
"I then set the foundation with a light dusting of Covergirl + Olay Pressed Powder in Light and warmed the apples of her cheeks with Clean Glow Blushin Roses. I finished the look with a classic bold red lip. I used Covergirl LipPerfection in Hot with matching liner. I used the liner to perfect her lip shape before applying color."
