Alexander Wang Announces Partnership With Adidas Originals At New York Fashion Week

All Day I Dream About Alexander Wang

by Lisa Eppich

Well, that's an ending. After Alexander Wang debuted his 2017 Spring/Summer collection at New York Fashion Week—a mixture of airy dresses and skirts made from deconstructed button-down shirts and sporty pieces in black and greys highlighted with neon purples, pinks, yellows, and blues—the models did their final march down the runway wearing black athleisure wear accented with three white stripes and a familiar (albeit upside down) 3-lobed logo: Alexander Wang's new collection for adidas Originals. Best surprise ever?

Although the collaboration was more or less announced earlier this summer, it was undoubtedly a shock to see it at the close of Wang's show yesterday. Even more of a surprise, the collection is ready to buy today, September 11, at pop-up shops in New York City and Brooklyn: See below for details. The tees and hoodies are relatively basic—all black with the white adidas stripes and an upside-down adidas logo—but the mixture of fabrics and sheens and the inside-out look of some of the pieces make it just off-kilter enough to fit firmly in Wang's aesthetic.

Along with the collection came a campaign video filmed by Juergen Teller, which mostly looks like security footage that slowly reveals a group of Wang-clad ruffians stealing boxes from a truck (presumably filled with the new adidas Originals collab?) before the footage freezes on the upside-down adidas logo. Artsy, disjointed, and a little bit confusing, we certainly understand the temptation to get your hands on the pieces before anyone else.
