Ocean's 8 will finally be out in theaters this week, and if you're not pumped about it yet, this heart-warming anecdote from Anne Hathaway will get you ready. While visiting The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote the film, Hathaway shared a story about how her co-stars boosted her body confidence when she was feeling insecure on set.
The actress, who revealed that the film was her first after giving birth to her son, Jonathan, opened up about how her body has changed since then and how it affected her confidence.
“One of the lucky things about being in this business for so long is that I’ve really kind of come to terms with the pressure that you get to look a certain way as an actress, and I don’t beat myself up about any of that stuff anymore," she said. "But after I had my son, the weight was really slow to come off and so I was a different size than I normally am.”
She went on to explain that she was "aware" of her weight when she arrived on set and was reassured by the film's director, Gary Ross, who told her, "That's great, we have eight women in this movie. We need to have as many body types up there as we can."
When she ran into Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett on set, they offered warm compliments that boosted her confidence. “I walked on the set, and, you know, my weight’s a little up and I’m just aware of it. And I walk on the set and I’m in my jeans, and I’ve done my best and I’m going to love myself no matter what,” she said. “And Sandy Bullock looks up and goes, ‘Looking good, mama!’ [And] Cate Blanchett’s like, ‘Nice jeans, Hathaway!' It made me feel amazing."
The two actresses weren't the only ones to give praise to Hathaway. Rihanna also took the time to gush over the actress, too. "And then Rihanna looks up and goes, 'Damn girl, you got an ass!' And I of course freaked out and loved it so much. I was like, ‘Really?!’ And she goes, 'You got an ass like me!'" Talk about friendship goals.
