#trend: all buttoned up.
it’s gotten hot under the collar at nyfw.
Every Fashion Week, we anoint the next big trend that's about to take over stores (and your wardrobe). It's cool to get a head start, but this season you probably won't have to wait to get on it. Because from day one, onward, there's been one piece that's shown up in just about every collection, and it's the button-down shirt.
Yes, the collared piece that was an integral part of your school uniform, or are expected to now wear to work every day, is the foundation to our favorite designers' spring '14 shows. Rag & Bone, Prabal Gurung, Richard Chai, Peter Som, Altuzarra--they all had it, but the way they used it was different.
At some shows, it was layered below sweaters, jackets, and even dresses. At others, it was left open (kept in place by very strategic waistband tucking). Some shows had embellished collars, while others used the entire top as a canvas for a bold, graphic print. And yes, there were even a few not-boring options for traditionalists.
The bottom line? No matter how you wear it, you're going to want to wear the button-down. Go ahead, pull yours out from the closet and start rocking it today. Click through our gallery if you need a little inspiration.
