Chairlift Is Still “Polymorphing” Post-Breakup

The duo’s last video ever

by Sydney Gore

Looking back, it really felt like the world we knew was ending as 2016 came to a close. To top it all off, seemingly out of nowhere, Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly announced that Chairlift would be breaking up in a note posted on Twitter. Four months later, the duo has emerged to release a music video for "Polymorphing."

The Ashley Connor-directed visual keeps things minimal in black-and-white as the camera follows Polachek and Wimberly in a variety of domestic settings. (You haven't lived until you've ironed a waffle or worn sunglasses in a bubble bath.) We're really going to miss seeing this creative pair around, but, at least, they'll still be involved in music. Saying goodbye is never easy, but this makes the departure feel less like we're being abandoned.

"I wanted to make one last Chairlift video, and 'Polymorphing' is a favorite of ours—perhaps the most 'us' song of our last album. It's the least conceptual video we've ever made," Polachek said in a statement. "There's no datamoshing or dance moves or foreign language translation—just a toast to our fans, to our friends, to the city, and to constant change! And yes, there is actually toast in the video."
