Watch Dane DeHaan And Tatiana Maslany Chill Hard In The ‘Two Lovers And A Bear’ Trailer

In North Pole, no less

by Ben Barna

Unfortunately, Two Lovers and a Bear is not a sequel to the great 2008 romance Two Lovers, where Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltrow's tortured Brighton Beach couple adopt a foulmouthed, talking bear. Instead, it follows two different tortured lovers—played by Dane DeHaan and Tatiana Maslany—as they zip up to the North Pole to escape... something. The new trailer for the Kim Nguyen–directed film asks a lot more questions than it answers. Why are these two people so sad? Why the North Pole? Is that the polar bear from Lost

The movie's North Pole scenes, which look stunning in their beauty, were shot in Nunavut, at the very top of Canada. In an interview with Vulture, Maslany said the cast wore electric long underwear to keep warm and snowmobiled to set every day. And if you're wondering how such a small budget movie could afford a CGI polar bear, Maslany says it was actually real, and that it was surrounded by an electric fence that you can't see in the movie. Not bad.

Two Lovers and a Bear will screen at next month's Toronto Film Festival. In the meantime, watch the trailer above.
