31 Days of DIY Denim: Day 8, Friendship Bracelet

Check out today’s project

by Sonia Ostrovsky

NYLON staffers created unique, DIY projects using denim in honor of our annual Denim Issue. Check back here every day of August to see a new project.

What you’ll need:

A pair of jeans or two (you’ll want the whole length of the leg and may want to vary the colors)

Scissors

Directions:

Step 1: Cut three very long pieces, about one-inch wide, from each pair of jeans.

Step 2: Put them side by side, alternating colors: one light, one dark, one light, etc...

Step 3: Make a knot at the top of all of them together, leaving an inch or so loose at the top.

Step 4: Loop the top part around a door knob so that it's easier to pull the pieces.

Step 5: Start making knots from left to right. Hold the left string straight, pull the right string out like a triangle, wrap the right string over the left, and pull through to make a knot. (Tip: It’s all about holding the under string very tight.)

Step 6: Keep going line by line until you run out of fabric.

Step 7: Make a knot at the end.

Step 8: Wrap around your wrist and attach the ends. Voilà!
