Disney Style Takes Over The Streets Of Tokyo!

Our favorite Harajuku style comes to life in a Disney edition

by Marissa Smith

Disney is currently killing it with all their runway-to-mass market collaborations (i.e. Kenzo x The Jungle Book and Coach x Disney), and now Disney Style has created a new series called Destination: Disney Style. With the help of YouTube, Destination: Disney Style explores how universal love for Disney is interpreted around the world through fashion.

The first Disney Style stop was Tokyo, and we couldn't be more excited about the amazing kawaii fashion they encountered. In the video below, Lauren Riihimaki of LaurDIY takes on Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea, and the streets of Harajuku to find the best fashion based on Disney characters. Let's talk about what Harajuku and kawaii fashion embody: They're basically the type of cute-to-the-extreme looks that almost make you explode. Think: pastels, bows, lace, or Shoshanna in Girls when she briefly moved to Japan. And when you put the Disney spin on it, you wind up getting looks like those on Mizuho Goto and Yurika Goto, two amazing sisters from Tokyo, who are decked out in their favorite characters' clothing, accessories, and even makeup looks. It's instantly iconic, and something we wish was more acceptable to wear here in New York!

Watch as Riihimaki talks to some amazing street style girls and visits designers like Samantha Thavasa, who makes high-end handbags with Disney prints. From vintage to high-end retail, Tokyo has Disney clothing and accessories for everyone. Set your inner kawaii girl free while you check out this video, and stay tuned for the rest of their destinations and videos coming later this month.
