FIRST LOOK: KENZO

with special guest star chloe sevigny!

by faran krentcil

When Opening Ceremony announced their creative directors, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, would take control of the Kenzo fashion brand, everyone was psyched. With all the innovation and shut-up-and-be-cool vibes shaking from their boutiques in New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, why wouldn't a Paris addition be a good idea? And although great expectations are often casually slaughtered in the fashion world, it turns out this new team really does live up to its fans' effusive Twitter updates. The new Kenzo collection is fresh, gutsy, and forward-thinking, with mini-shorts and shrunken anoraks sharing space with billowing pants and skirts. The color blocking (huge chunks of tomato red, cobalt blue, and emerald green) makes it easy for chicsters to crawl out of bed, pull something together, and still look perfect. The bird prints looked charming; the cross-knot prints looked expensive. And the netted baseball hats seem destined to become a new DIY obsession for the fashion pack. Chloe Sevigny closed the show in a Crayon-blue jumpsuit and - surprise! - dark brown hair. Meanwhile, Our eight favorite looks are below. Scope them on the Internet now, until you can stalk them in real life next year... probably at Opening Ceremony... fun how it all comes together like that.
