Ellen Page Crosses The Line In New ‘Flatliners’ Reboot
What happens after the afterlife?
The afterlife is the Zeitgeist these days. Netflix's The Discovery explored what would happen if proof of the afterlife existed while its other program, The OA, featured a prominent plotline centered around extraordinary individuals who have died and come back to life. Now Flatliners, the Academy Award-winning '90s sci-fi film starring Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland, is getting a reboot. This time around, though, it's Ellen Page having a go at the whole self-induced heart stoppage thing.
The first trailer plays out like any thriller trailer would: Intuitive medical students with a penchant for mischief engage in casual flatlining, i.e. they stop their hearts for a minute or so, die, and then get brought back to life. The goal is to experience what happens in death. It's all fun and games, bursting with "pure energy," until people stop being polite and start to get real.
Page is joined by Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemons. Sutherland is going to reprise his role, stating that this iteration of Flatliners isn't so much a remake as it is a sequel. Much like the characters in this thriller, looks like films can be revived and given a second life, too.
Flatliners will hit theaters on September 29.
